Bio
Sylvia Rack is a Montreal based artist who studied Animation at Concordia University and Sheridan College. She then worked professionally in video games, developing unique animation, story points, and character designs. Her work was instrumental in the development and success of Compulsion Games’ first release, Contrast.
While visiting the Uffizi in Florence, Rack discovered a large painting by Otto Marseus Van Schrieck, the founder of the sottobosco genre. Bewitched, she moved to Florence within the year to study oil painting techniques of the old masters. Shortly after returning to Canada in 2019, Rack became involved in several parent-led environmental activist groups. At a seminar hosted by the Butterfly Rangers, she was introduced to the microcosm of specialized plant/insect relationships, which set the stage for a lifelong obsession.
Sylvia Rack is an MFA candidtate in Painting and Drawing at Concordia Univeristy, and is completing an 8-week residency on invasive plant species with Ayatana Biophilium: Science School for Artists. Rack has taught Cinematics, Project Development and Design Culture at George Brown College. She qualified as a finalist in the 15th international ARC Salon. Her work is in private collections in Canada and internationally.
